Problem and Solution:
ABC Roses is a fictitious company selling premium, specialty roses. Over the years, ABC Roses notice that many new customers are hesitant to buy ABC roses because they are unsure about how to care for these roses. In order to address this concern, ABC Roses would like an instructional designer to create a learning experience to teach potential customers about rose care and maintenance.
Process:
By analysing the mistakes which inexperienced gardeners make when caring for roses, I identified the areas that were appropriate to address with eLearning. I created an action map, followed by a text-based storyboard. After several rounds of feedback and editing, I designed the visual mockup, a visual storyboard and a working prototype. Then, I refined the prototype to create the final product that you see here.
In order to create this project, I looked at guidebooks on rose planting and drew upon my own gardening experience. The main objective of this project is to teach new gardeners how to care for their roses with the action map branching to the choices which gardeners need to make. Each choice leads to real-life consequences with correct choices leading the rose plant to thrive and incorrect choices harming the plant. Each choice also comes with a detailed explanations. This way of modeling the course allows every choice to clearly relate back to the project’s main objective.
Text-Based Storyboard and Visual Mockups:
After completing the action map, I wrote a text-based storyboard and developed the visual mockups. I used free vector images from https://www.vecteezy.com and edited these images using GIMP.
I arranged all of the scenes and triggers to ensure that users can navigate this learning experience easily. Users are presented with different choices for each question. They can also choose to receive tips from rose expert, Flora, by clicking the "Ask Flora" button. To keep track of their learning, users are rewarded with a rose for each correct choice that they make. Once users have figured out all of the correct ways to care for a rose, their rose vines bloom fully.
